“Fit for Use” Tests for Products

Testing E-Commerce Products, Checking Tool Quality & Evaluating Suppliers

Would you like to have your products tested before sale, check the quality of your tools or carry out a well-founded supplier evaluation in wholesale?

The DEKRA K-Labor in Bretten supports retailers, brands and wholesalers with practical fit-for-use tests – specifically for:

  • E-commerce retailers & private label brands
  • Industrial and trade supplies wholesalers
  • Automotive parts and workshop suppliers
  • Retailers of pet supplies and consumer goods

The focus is not on pure standards testing, but on the decisive question:
How well does your product perform in real use?

Have Products Tested – For Better Reviews & Fewer Returns

In e-commerce in particular, customer reviews and return rates determine success.

With our fit-for-use tests, you can:

  • Identify weaknesses before the sales launch
  • Prove product quality objectively
  • Reduce returns and negative reviews

Typical products tested:

  • Household goods & kitchen products
  • Sports and leisure articles
  • Pet supplies
  • Electrical accessories and everyday products

Check Tool Quality & Test Automotive Products

Professional use in the trades and workshops requires particularly high standards.

We test for you:

  • Tools and fasteners
  • Automotive accessories and workshop products
  • Industrial and consumable materials

Typical questions:

  • Does the product withstand daily stress?
  • Are there any material or workmanship issues?
  • How does your product compare to the competition?

Supplier Evaluation in Wholesale

Make Confident Purchasing Decisions

For wholesalers (e.g. in the style of Würth or BERNER), we offer a well-founded supplier and product evaluation:

  • Comparison of several suppliers under identical conditions
  • Evaluation of own brands vs. third-party brands
  • Safeguarding of quality standards in the product range

In this way, you make data-based purchasing decisions instead of relying on gut feeling.

What Is Tested in the Fit-for-Use Test?

Our tests are based on real application conditions:

  • Durability (long-term use, wear)
  • Material quality & workmanship
  • Mechanical load capacity
  • Resistance to chemicals, temperature, humidity, UV
  • Fitness for everyday use
  • Surface quality & abrasion behaviour

Product Comparison & Benchmarking

Your Competition in a Direct Test

On request, we test several products simultaneously:

  • Your product vs. competing products
  • Different suppliers
  • Different product variants

Result:
Clear statements on performance, quality and durability

DEKRA Test Report – Your Competitive Advantage

You receive an independent test report that is ideal for:

  • E-commerce listings & marketing
  • B2B sales and field service
  • Internal quality control
  • Supplier approval in wholesale

Use tested quality as a strong sales argument.

FAQ

As a rule, we need between 3 and 10 original products per test scenario to enable statistically valid statements. For large appliances, a single unit is often sufficient; for consumables, we plan for higher quantities.

Typically 3–6 weeks, depending on the scope of testing. If long-term tests such as continuous operation, cycles or ageing are included, it may take 8–12 weeks.

Mechanical, chemical and ageing tests are within the DAkkS-accredited scope in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. We carry out individual usage simulations according to customer specifications and identify these in the report.

Yes – practical simulations are one of our core competences. We develop the test procedure (cycles, media, load profiles) together with you and fully document wear, loss of function and damage patterns.
